During my first trip to Luxembourg (City) last year, I took a walk through one of the city’s parks. In a country known for its rainy weather, I was fortunate enough to enjoy a sunny afternoon on my first day. (It did rain on subsequent days, though!)

This photo has a joyously classical look to it. I guess that captured the mood of a rare sunny day.

Thank you! Truth be told I was very pleased with how the post-processing turned out. It was a good object lesson for me that it’s really alright to lift shadow areas in a black-and-white photo. From the histogram the range of values for the mid-tones was a joy to behold. I’m guessing this is what added to its ‘classic’ look! 🙂

It’s nice to have lots of mid-tones to work with if you’re doing black and white, isn’t it? I think anything has to be OK, ultimately, because each photo is unique. You never know what might improve one particular image, even something that seems like it couldn’t work.

(I was also admiring all the fine detail you have, from the iris leaves lining the pool to the trees way in the back.)
